The Labour Party candidate for Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal House of Representatives, Chief Amobi Ogah in an exclusive interview with our correspondent condemned the protracted ASUU Strike which has become a yearly routine in the nations tertiary education system. According to Chief Amobi Ogah, “a country which jokes with the future and ambition of the incoming generation is planting a dangerous seed which has the capacity to envelope every other sector of the country”. Amobi Ogah noted that the perennial strike, owing to the inability of the Federal Government and ASUU to reach a compromise after several months is not good for the system.
He noted that, although the industrial action has been suspended, a good legislation can ameliorate such future occurrences. “As a prospective legislature, the Labour Party which I am a part of will prioritize education”. He continues that, “education is amongst the key priorities of my legislative ambition. When elected to the Federal House of Representatives, I will push for a bill to create special status for the education system. Teachers across all levels of education deserve a special status bills which amongst other things will place emphasis on their salary and conditions of service as well as critical infrastructure to reflect global standards”.
Amobi continued that, as a man with vast experience in the private sector and employer of labour, much is desired from the quality of graduates produced in polytechnics and universities. He expressed that he will work with other lawmakers when elected to make the “special status bill in education” a reality.
