BREAKING NEWS: CRISIS HITS PDP ISUIKWUATO/UMUNNEOCHI AS MEMBERS DECAMP TO LABOUR PARTY A DAY BEFORE ELECTION.
By: Okene Adaelu
About 537 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Isuikwuato and Umunneochi Local Government Area have decamped enmass to the Labour Party today, the 24th of February 2023, during their visit to Chief Amobi Ogah of the Labour Party.
The group which was led by Chief Emeka Ajuziela and other ward and unit leaders of the PDP in Isuikwuato and Umunneochi said they decided to abandon the Peoples Democratic Party candidate in Isuikwuato/Umunneochi and pitch their tent with the Labour Party candidate, Chief Amobi Ogah because they have seen the political handwriting on the wall as well as the intending victory of Chief Amobi Ogah in tomorrow’s House of Reps election.
The PDP decampees stated that “the PDP will be defeated in our constituency because of the high-handedness of our so called rulers in the party. As a political group, it is important that we align with the Obidati movement and their Representative in our constituency, Chief Amobi Ogah because he remains the only candidate with capacity to wrestle power from the APC incumbent candidate”.
Furthermore, the PDP decampees noted that with the current crisis leadership crisis rocking the PDP and the mountain of court cases against our party, a vote for any PDP candidate will be a wasted vote because the effort will be wasted at the Election tribunal should we mistakenly vote for PDP at any level”.
A woman leader in PDP, Mrs Nwankwo Eucharia noted that, as a member of the PDP caucus, the PDP candidate, Loveth Ofoegbu does not inspire confidence and courage to wrestle power from Mrs Nkiru Onyejeocha. She said that, “at the moment, there is crisis in the PDP and all serious stakeholders have abandoned our party, we have searched within ourselves and seen that Amobi Ogah remains the only credible candidate who can bring Isuikwuato LGA together for victory. She continued that, “what we are doing here is not about Party, it is about candidate and capacity. We have abandoned the PDP and decided to pitch tent with Amobi Ogah”.
Summarizing their visit, the youth leader of the PDP group said that, even if we spend all Abia State money to buy votes at tomorrow House of Reps election, everybody in Isuikwuato/umunneochi can see that we cannot buy the conscience of the people. Even our PDP candidate have repeatedly said that Labour Party is her major headache, therefore, since she knows and appreciates the capacity of Amobi Ogah, it is only wise that we align with the best candidate which is Labour Party”
The group also noted that, “the fact that Chief Amobi Ogah abandoned the PDP after he refused to sign an agreement that will make him to remit 65 percent of our Federal allocations to the few cabals in Abia State further proves that he is not a man that will be pushed around to sign any evil document which will mortgage our constituency. Tomorrow, we shall deliver Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi and Chief Amobi Ogah”.
Responding, Chief Amobi Ogah thanked them for joining the Labour movement in Isuikwuato/Umunneochi. He assured that the rising number of fresh decampees who have joined the Labour Party from PDP and APC in recent time is a reaffirmation of his candidacy and victory for the people of Isuikwuato/Umunneochi.
