PROFESSOR AZUBUIKE ONYEBUCHI AS THE RALLYING POINT IN ABIA STATE.
By : Promise UDEH ([email protected]).
Abia was united at the burial of late Sir Micah Onyebuchi – a reflection on the character and personality of his son, Professor Azubuike Onyebuchi. History shows that, all over the world, only few persons can bring divergent political actors under one roof at a single time. The burial of late Sir Micah Onyebuchi JKW, a seasoned educationist, former Chairman of Abia State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB) and father of the Chief Medical Director, Federal Medical Center, Umuahia, Professor Azubuike Onyebuchi deserves more than a passing remark on the pages of newspapers, but a careful analysis of the person and character of his son, Professor Onyebuchi who unified the entire Abia political space in solidarity.
During the October 27th, 2022 internment ceremony, politicians discarded their political garbs as the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, Hon Ude Oko Chukwu (Deputy Governor), Chief Theodore Orji (Senator Representing Abia Central), Professor Uchenna Ikonne (PDP Governorship candidate), Professor Greg Ibe (APGA Governorship candidate) represented by his deputy Hon obinna Ichita, Dr. Alex Otti (Labour Party Governorship candidate), Chief Ikechi Emenike of the APC, Chief Mascot Kalu of Action Peoples Party, amongst other dignitaries exchanged warm pleasantries, embraced each other and sat in unison to reminisce on the quintessence of the life and time of the deceased.
The massive solidarity at Amuzukwu Ibeku, the country home of late Sir Micah Onyebuchi, reemphasizes the unifying personality of his son, Professor Onyebuchi as a man whose administrative ingenuity, humane personality and peaceful disposition which engineered the success stories recorded at the Federal Medical Center, Umuahia have become the rallying point, especially in a heated electioneering period where tensions are high, interest clash and politicians and their supporters regard their co-contestants as plagues who should be curtailed or disposed at most.
Therefore, it is not out of place to request that Professor Azubuike Onyebuchi should continue to make himself available as the rallying point for peaceful coexistence among Abia’s political stakeholders even as Abians seek a peaceful 2023 political transition.
